Wally Dion’s RFF and Mackenzie Portraitures are on display Now!
Mackenzie Art Gallery(3475 Albert Street)
Mackenzie Art Gallery and the Regina Folk Festival formed a Collaborative Partnership in the celebration of two Community events: Bazaart at the Mackenzie Art Gallery and the Regina Folk Festival in Victoria Park. With the goal of celebrating the amazing talent of Saskatchewan visual and misical artists this partnership contributed to the evolution of both events and at the same time assisted us in moving toward an inclusive focus of featuring and supporting other local community events. The RFF brought a range of musical workshops to Bazaart outdoor arts and sale, and in return the Mackenzie committed to providing an interactive visual art workshop for the 40th anniversary of the music festival.
Saskatoon Artist Wally Dion and the Regina Folk Festival attendees created lar4ge monochromatic portraits of community figures using small pieces of handmade pulp paper in shades of black and white. This workshop not only references Wally’s own portraiture work, but also the work of Australian Artist Vernon Ah Kee.
The Regina Folk Festival and the MacKenzie Art Gallery is proud of its community collaborations and would like to thank all those who engaged in this project. The Success is on the Wall!
